Delaware's Bayshore towns are the state's best kept secret. While millions flock to Rehoboth, Dewey and Bethany Beach every year, many Delawareans escape to the quieter towns along the way. The beaches may not be as great for swimming as our Atlantic Ocean beaches, but the Bayshore towns are peaceful places to get your fill of the beach without fighting crowds. The most charming of these little towns, Bowers Beach, DE, is right in between the St. Jones and Murderkill Rivers outside of Frederica. Check out the best things to do in Bowers Beach, Delaware:
The sleepy town of Bowers Beach is a slice of paradise on the Delaware Bay.
The water is lined with docks and beach houses that have remained unchanged for decades.
Boats still go out daily, with fishermen seeking crabs, oysters, fish and more.
JP's Wharf, right on the river, serves up food brought in from Bowers' boats every day.
Drive or boat up to 201 Hubbard Ave
Bowers Beach, Delaware for a fresh-from-the-sea meal!
The town itself is quaint and charming, with historic homes and a church right in the center of town.
The Bowers Beach Maritime Museum is one of the most charming places in Delaware.
Bowers' annual Buccaneer Bash is a pirate-themed festival that's fun for the whole family.
The Buccaneer Bash happens on Memorial Day Weekend, but the town and museum host events year-round. Visitors also flock to the town in October for "Big Thursday on a Sunday," which is a tribute to the town's oyster harvesting heritage.
Whether you want to stroll the beach, learn about history, or dine on fresh seafood, a trip to South Bowers Beach will make your wishes come true.
