Wilmington may be the most under-appreciated city in the country. Locals like to talk about crime rates in certain neighborhoods, and anyone who isn't a local will skip over our city on the river to visit Philadelphia or Baltimore instead. Well, we're here to clue you in on a little secret - the largest city in Delaware is one of the most unique places in the entire county, and you'll want to take a second look at Wilmington.
On a nice day, there's no better place for a breezy stroll than the Wilmington Riverwalk.
Restaurants and shops line the boardwalk here, and the Delaware Children's Museum is right on the water, too!
For an amazing meal, head to Market Street. You'll find something for everyone here!
Truly, Market Street has a restaurant for all states. From classic American gastropubs, to Italian trattorias, to soul food and more - if you're craving it, it's here.
Little Italy is another neighborhood that foodies will want to explore!
Pick up cheese from Fierro's, meatballs from Scalessa's, and homemade pasta from any of the shops you see here. For dinner, stop by Mrs. Robino's for authentic old school Italian cuisine.
There are dozens of parks in town - but Valley Garden Park is one of the most underrated spots.
Come by in the spring to see the Cherry Blossoms in bloom.
There are other beautiful gardens in Wilmington, too. Stop in to see the Goodstay Gardens or Marion Coffin Gardens, where something beautiful is always in bloom.
Speaking of beautiful - it's hard to overlook the impact that the DuPont family has made on the area. There are three must-see estates in Wilmington - Nemours, Hagley, and Winterthur.
If you love to get outside, visit Alapocas Run State Park! It's the only place where you can go rock climbing outdoors in Delaware. There are hiking trails to explore here, too. One even takes you to a beautiful and historic abandoned mill.
The Brandywine is a great river for paddling or floating. Wilderness Canoe Trips takes you from the heart of the city out to a spot where you can drop in and take a relaxing float back to town.
Come visit Wilmington, where you'll find gardens, historic estates, plenty of natural wonders, and lots of places to dine. Our underrated city is sure to charm you!
