1. Kent Falls - Kent
If you were one of those kids who liked watching the slinky fall down the stairs then you will love this waterfall. Its stair-like gradual drop stretches over a quarter mile and is located in Kent Falls State Park. If you stand close enough, you can feel the mist from the gushing waterfall. Please note that once the parking lot at the park is full, the park is closed to additional visitors. It will reopen again once the parking lot has at least 10 free spots.
2. Enders Falls - West Granby
Our next stop takes us to Enders Falls, a series of five waterfalls nestled in Enders State Forest. The largest drops 30 feet, but each promises spectacular beauty. If you're visiting during the summer, bring your swimsuit. Some of the waterfalls drop into shimmering pools that allow for swimming. However, the forest does not have any facilities, so prepare accordingly before your visit.
3. Mill Pond Falls - Newington
Now that you've had a chance to cool off (if you're on this road trip during the summer), we're off to see the smallest natural waterfall in the United States. Mills Pond Falls drops just 12 feet. Walk around the flower-framed pond the waterfall flows over, and share a kiss on the bridge. Or just take a really great photo. Even in winter, it's pretty. And the viewing deck will let you really enjoy it!
4. Chapman Falls - East Haddam
One of the first things you'll likely notice when you see Chapman Falls are the round holes.
Now there's a rumor that Satan himself is responsible for those holes, but it's probably just nature. You'll really have to decide for yourself. Chapman Falls sits in Devil's Hopyard State Park and drops a breathtaking 60 feet.
5. Buttermilk Falls - Plymouth
Slip on your hiking boots for the relatively easy yet scenic .06-mile Buttermilk Falls Trail that will lead you directly to the majestic falls. (Hikers have called Buttermilk Falls one of the best waterfalls in Connecticut.) However, be careful as you make your way along the trail - you'll deal with some rugged spots, and it can get pretty slippery. Parking is also difficult to find, but the trek is well worth it to see Buttermilk Falls.
6. Roaring Brook Falls - Cheshire
Tucked inside Roaring Brook Park, a quiet spot that's ideal for reflection, Roaring Brook Falls drops a stunning 80 feet, making it the tallest waterfall in Connecticut. Follow Roaring Brook Falls Trail, dotted with ponds and swamp areas. The 1.4-mile trail can get pretty busy at times. Be prepared for a challenge on what is considered a moderate hike to the falls.
