It's no secret that Alabama is filled with many haunted places. From restaurants and homes, to churches and cemeteries, there are numerous places where you'll likely have a paranormal experience. Speaking of cemeteries, one of the most haunted cemeteries in Alabama is Adams Grove Cemetery, which is attached to Adams Grove Presbyterian Church in Sardis. As mentioned above, Adams Grove Presbyterian Church is the church that's located next to this haunted cemetery. Built in 1853, this church's last congregation was held in 1974.
Even though this church is no longer used, it's still interesting to be able to view its Greek Revival-style design, which was a very popular style of architecture in the 1800s. Another interesting fact that makes this church extra special is that it's one of the few pre-Civil War churches still in the area today.
And now to the cemetery. As previously mentioned, Adams Grove Cemetery, which is attached to Adams Grove Presbyterian Church, is believed to be haunted. In fact, it's considered to be one of Alabama's most haunted cemeteries.
There are several gravestones located throughout the cemetery that date back to the 1800s. Most of them belong to confederate soldiers, slaves, and citizens of the area. Over the years, strange occurrences have taken place at this cemetery during all hours of the day, especially at night.
According to several witnesses, a shadowy man with fiery red eyes has been spotted strolling the grounds of the cemetery. A confederate soldier's spirit has also been spotted yelling at trespassers of the cemetery. Many people have also reported the sounds of a crying baby.
These days, many people from near and far visit Adams Grove Cemetery to see if it's truly haunted. However, it's important to point out that the property is now privately owned. So, be sure to keep that in mind if you plan to visit.
