The Board Game Cafe In Austin That’s Oodles Of Fun
When you were a child, your mother may have told you to stop playing around at the dinner table. Here’s a restaurant that not only allows you to play while you dine — they encourage it!
When you're looking for a unique dining experience that's also a whole lot of fun, head to Vigilante Gastropub & Games. It's located at 7010 Easy Wind Dr. #150, Austin, TX 78752, and from the outside, it looks just like a basic strip-mall spot.
From the moment you step in the door, you'll be pleasantly surprised. This place isn't a grubby storefront with some folding tables and worn-out board games; it's a gorgeous, luxurious place with a 1920s vibe.
The regular dining area is perfect for playing a casual game like Cards Against Humanity or Bananagrams, but the gaming area is set up for more hardcore pursuits.
Special gaming tables offer a tray for your food and cup holders so your drinks won't spill. Under the table, you'll find a little drawer to hold dice and playing pieces, a cardholder, and a call button to summon your server. There's also a button that alerts others when you have room for another player to join.
The games are all organized into special wooden boxes, so they're easy to shelve in order, and they definitely look much nicer than a bunch of worn-out game boxes crammed on a shelf! There are more than 200 games to choose from here.
From complex strategy games like Dragoon...
...to simple, childhood favorites, you'll find a game here to enjoy.
Sliders are the specialty of the house here, and they have some unique offerings with their "Slider of the Day." Regular menu items include the Bahn Me Up Scotty, A Cabana in Havana, Buffalo the Vampire Slayer, and more.
How about a pair of So-Fishticated tacos? They come stuffed with tender flounder fillets, grilled with chili lime seasoning. In addition to the snack menu items, the newly-expanded Power-Up menu offers fancier fare like these tacos, crab croquettes, and calamari.
Of course, you'll have a wide selection of beers and drinks to choose from as well.
Vigilante has a robust calendar of events, too. You'll have a blast at Drag Queen Bingo, held every month. Four rousing rounds of Bingo are hosted by Jodie Fairchild, who will call out the combos until someone wins a goofy, worthless prize that's almost as funny as Jodie's antics.
Why dine at a boring restaurant when you can spend time with friends and family at this beautiful gastropub, playing games and bonding? Visit Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
