This Cozy Cabin Is the Perfect Home Base for West Virginia’s Best Hiking Trails

Located just 10 minutes from New River Gorge National Park, this cabin is perfect for exploring West Virginia's best hiking trails.

West Virginia’s New River Gorge National Park and Preserve is one of America’s most impressive national parks. With over 70,000 acres to explore, you could easily spend a lifetime finding new trails and scenic overlooks. Of course, even just spending a weekend at the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve is worth your while. We’ve found the perfect cozy cabin in Fayetteville to call home while you tackle some of the best hiking trails in West Virginia.

The cabin in Fayetteville is only a 10-minute drive to the national park. It’s located down a long, winding road that ensures you’ll have all the peace and quiet you could ask for.

The one-bedroom cabin is cozy, but doesn’t feel cramped. The sofa in the living room, seen above, can be turned into an extra bed to accommodate up to four guests total. I think two people would find this cabin in West Virginia absolutely perfect.

The upstairs bedroom has a skylight, which is perfect for stargazing! We’ll chat more about that in a little bit, but keep that in mind. This is an excellent spot to stargaze, and being able to do so from your bed almost feels illegal.

Some of West Virginia’s best hiking trails are just a short drive away. There are hundreds of hiking trails in the New River Gorge National Park; it just comes down to how much time you have!

Long Point Trail (pictured above) is one of my favorites. It’s an easy three-mile trail that takes you to a viewing spot of the iconic New Gorge River Bridge. The Endless Wall Trail is nearby, and that’s another relatively easy three-mile trail that leads to some epic cliff views.

If you want a challenge, take the Kaymoor Miners Trail. It’s only 1.5 miles, but it packs a punch with plenty of stairs and switchbacks. The history along the trail is unparalleled, and you’ll pass through a few historic coal mine sites with signs explaining the history of the mine operation and the communities that once lived here.

Most of the park's hiking trails are well-marked, but an AllTrails account wouldn't hurt. If nothing else, it's a great resource for trail reviews to make sure they're cleared of debris.

After a long day of hitting the trails, return to the cabin and wind down for the night. There’s a fire pit with plenty of chairs to curl up around, and there’s also a hot tub, which would feel incredible after a long hike. Once the sun turns in for the night, turn your gaze to the sky and do some stargazing from the hot tub! Of course, you can also just head to bed and watch the stars all cozied up under the covers.
