This Secluded Log Cabin Is the Perfect Home Base for Devils Fork State Park
Enjoy a nature driven getaway with a stay in this secluded log cabin in South Carolina that's only half a mile from Devils Fork State Park.
While most people flock to South Carolina’s beaches in the summer, I’m seeking out mountain views. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy a beach day every now and then, but overall, I’d much rather spend my summers around mountains and lakes. If you’re anything like me, then you’re going to love this secluded log cabin that’s the perfect home base for exploring Devils Fork State Park. Don’t worry; there are plenty of opportunities to make a splash!
Tucked away in Oconee County, Salem is a tiny little town in South Carolina at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains that’s the perfect home base to explore Lake Jocassee and Devils Fork State Park. This secluded log cabin in Salem is less than a mile from the state park!
If I’m embarking on a nature-driven getaway, I want my accommodations to reflect that. I love a nice hotel, but if my adventures take me on scenic hikes through the mountains, then I’m picking a place to stay that fits the vibe, like this secluded log cabin.
The three-bedroom, two-bathroom cabin has five beds and can accommodate up to nine guests. There are two family living rooms within the two-story vacation rental, plus plenty of outdoor seating options, so everyone will have plenty of space.
Guests are provided with a park pass to enjoy Devils Fork State Park free of charge. The park pass is actually good for all South Carolina State Parks, so if your schedule allows, you can drive out to further parks like Oconee State Park (27 miles away) or Table Rock State Park (20 miles away).
Devils Fork State Park is only half a mile from the cabin. The 622-acre state park is nestled along the beautiful Lake Jocassee, a favorite summertime spot for locals and tourists alike. The lake has some of the best trout fishing in South Carolina, while others enjoy swimming in the crystal clear waters. There are even a few waterfalls at Devils Fork State Park that are only accessible by boat!
The Oconee Bells Nature Trail is a short and sweet hike that I encourage everyone visiting this state park to take. The 1.5-mile loop trail leads you through the forest, alongside a small creek, and eventually past a little pond.
If you get your timing right, you might be able to see the wildflower the trail is named after! The Oconee Bell wildflower is endangered, so please refrain from picking them; instead, enjoy these beautiful white flowers with your eyes and take only photographs.
After a long day of exploring, swimming, and fishing, return to the cabin and enjoy the brand-new hot tub that was installed in May 2025. Surrounded by vibrant green trees, it’s the perfect way to end the day!
