This New York Airbnb Is Like Stepping Onto the Set Of “The Holdovers”
This library Airbnb in New York gave me serious nostalgia for one of my favorite recent movies, and it's a perfect retreat for a book-lover.
There have been a lot of amazing movies over the last few years, but one that always stuck in my mind was The Holdovers. This charming Alexander Payne slice-of-life dramedy featured three misfits stuck together at Christmastime at an old boarding school. I really enjoyed the growth of the lead character, Paul Hunham, a curmudgeonly classics professor who was much more at home buried in a book than interacting with other people.
A Movie-Inspired Getaway in New York
While there aren't any getaways that let you stay in an old-timey boarding school in the northeast, I couldn't help but think that The Library at Camp Arden would be Professor Hunham's little slice of heaven. A private, rustic cabin located on a beautiful lake, it has a one-of-a-kind feature: a private library! The cabin is stocked with hundreds of books lining the walls, and that makes it a perfect getaway if you, too, feel like books make the best friends.
An A-List Airbnb in the Adirondacks
Camp Arden is one of the best places to stay in the Adirondacks, a collection of cabins packed with vintage charm, not far from the beloved waterfront spot of Loon Lake. All the cabins have something to offer, but The Library at Camp Arden really stands out from the crowd. You'll see why as soon as you open the door.
Amenities Aplenty in this Library-Inspired Airbnb
This isn't just a cabin, and it isn't just a library; it's both at the same time. As soon as you open the door, you'll be blown away by the number of books on the shelf. Read them all you want while you're here, leave them when you go, and you might just discover your new favorite author while you're staying here. One could easily imagine Paul Hunham getting lost in a book and tuning out the disruptive antics of the boys while in here.
Old-Fashioned Charm Meets Modern Convenience
But the old-fashioned charm of the Library at Camp Arden is perfectly paired with modern convenience—the house comes with a full kitchen, a TV, and fast Wi-Fi. That makes this a perfect choice if you want to make this a working vacation but still be close enough to nature to take a break and enjoy the great outdoors.
A Well-Appointed Stay For Movie Lovers and Romantics Alike
This is an intimate cabin, sleeping two guests and having one bedroom—a beautiful queen bed on the second floor. You'll wake up each morning to sunlight wafting in from the nearby pond, and just like the rest of the house, the bedroom is full of beautiful antique decorations and unique flourishes.
It might be tempting to stay inside for your stay and read all the books you can, but then you'd miss out on the beauty of Carpenter Pond. This charming waterfront is great for kayaking or catch-and-release fishing during the summer.
Have you ever stayed at The Library at Camp Arden? If not, tell a book-loving friend and book your stay on the official Airbnb listing (there are plenty of dates left through the summer). And while you're in the area, this makes an amazing launch point for more adventures in Adirondack Park, the best state park in New York.
