Back in its heyday in the late 1800s, the Overlook Mountain House was a beautiful resort. The owners had financial difficulties and eventually sold the property.

The Overlook Mountain House burned down and was rebuilt on multiple occasions. Concrete was used in the final rebuild, and much of the structure survived even a final fire in 1970.

A surprising amount of the hotel still stands today. Visitors should proceed with caution and be on the lookout for ticks and snakes. Many of the walls are still intact.

It's amazing to think that this was once a popular hotel that hosted hundreds of guests. Notable names like Presidents Ulysses S. Grant and Chester Arthur stayed on the premises.

Visiting the remains of the Overlook Mountain House is a rare opportunity to explore a piece of New York history.
