Explore The Hudson River Maritime Museum In New York, Then Stay The Night In The Historic Hotel Kinsley

Discover the Hudson River Maritime Museum and stay at the historic Hotel Kinsley in Kingston for a unique and enriching getaway.

The city of Kingston near the Catskill Mountains is an incredible getaway. There is so much to check out in the area, and these two gems will enhance your trip ten-fold.

First, stop off at the Hudson River Maritime Museum. Since prehistoric times, the Hudson River has been a crucial feature of New York.  It’s fascinating to learn about river ecology, boating, and maritime history. Of course, we still use boats, yet the significance of navigating the Hudson River is rich with antiquity and wonder.

The Hudson River Maritime Museum is housed in an old boathouse along Roundout Creek.

The HRMM is open from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Here is Roundout Creek, looking towards the mouth of the Hudson River.

You will be surprised at all there is to explore! Expect to spend a few hours looking around.

There are films, exhibits, guest lectures, walking tours, and boat tours to check out.

The gift shop has something for all ages.

You’ll find new and antique books, toys, locally made products, shirts, and leather-bound journals.

If you have more time, you may want to sign-up to build a watercraft yourself!

There are many options for solar boat tours around the river.

Be sure to check the various opportunities. The Friday Sunset Cruise is very popular, so book early and bring a bottle of nice wine!

After your time at the museum, check in at the nearby and stylish Hotel Kinsley. This collection of four restored historic buildings will leave you rested and inspired.

301 Wall Street is the flagship building of the hotel. It is a restored 19th-century bank.

Check out the bank vault entrance on the way to the front desk.

Every part of each building is beautiful and artistic.

Enjoying a drink or meal in front of this fireplace will be special. The "All Things Must Pass" artwork may be a gentle reminder to savor the moment.

Every room is perfect.

This room is a rustic gem found in the 24 John Street location.

24 John Street is a renovated European-style cottage that predates the Revolutionary War.

There are many reasons folks make plans to return at least once a year.

Every room is different.

The restaurant and bar are open daily.

If you stay on the weekend the brunch at Hotel Kinsley is out of this world.

The Hudson River Maritime Museum website is filled with helpful information. Be sure to look into the boat tours!

The Hotel Kinsley’s website is every bit as artful as the hotel itself. It’s beautiful to navigate and filled with great information. They even provide an excellent link to places in Kingston they recommend you visit.
