This Might Just Be The Most Beautiful Campground In All Of New Jersey
Wharton State Forest is the largest tract of land in the New Jersey state park system. At 122,880 acres, it offers dozens of hiking trails, lakes, rivers, ruins and several campsites. There is no fee to visit the park and camping rates are very affordable.
Atsion Family Campground is located right on Atsion Lake. Imagine enjoying a scene like this.
The lake offers a public swimming area which is an absolute delight in summer months.
The Atsion area is also home to the restored Atsion Mansion which is a sight to see.
The ruins of Atsion Village are also worth a look.
You can access several trails from this campground, including a 9 mile trail to Batsto Village.
If you'd rather not hike, you can always drive to the historic village.
Other nearby activities including visiting Apple Pie Hill, the highest point in the Pinelands.
Visiting the Carranza crash site and memorial.
Or kayaking on the Mullica River.
Atsion Family Campground offers 50 tent and trailer sites with fire rings and picnic tables. Potable water, flush toilets and showers are within walking distance.
The campground is now open all year and rates are $20 per night for New Jersey residents.
Wharton State Forest also offers primitive campsites with hand pumps and pit toilets. Rates start at $3 per night.
