This stunning VRBO castle was built in 1995. It’s located on a hilltop with views of Mount Monadnock, a 3,165-foot peak popular with hikers, and a picturesque lake. Surrounded by 500 acres of countryside, it provides visitors with peace, solitude, and quiet. Adventure seekers will also appreciate the miles of walking and cross-country ski trails around the property.
The exterior of the castle looks like something out of a Gothic novel, thanks to its fortress-inspired design. Large gray stones, towers, and arched windows cater to medieval architecture.
Naturally, the inside of this New Hampshire castle is just as stunning. If you appreciate design, you’ll enjoy the ornate furniture and authentic tapestries, which give a traditional and old-fashioned aesthetic. The living room has a gas fireplace and enough seating for 18 people, while the kitchen comes with everything you’ll need during your stay (fridge, dishwasher, microwave, stove, coffee maker, kettle, blender, toaster, etc.)
Sleep like royalty in the expansive primary bedroom with two separate balconies with water views, a working fireplace, an adjoining bathroom, and an ornate four-poster bed. Other people can spread out in the guest bedrooms, and there are also sleeping arrangements in other rooms, like the library.
For more fun and games, head to the basement bar and game room—the perfect destination for rainy days! You can spend some time playing foosball, pool, ping pong, darts, cards, and more. In the mood for a drink? Visit the engraved mahogany bar, which has handcrafted wooden stools for everyone. The castle has a gym with exercise equipment as well.
If you’re traveling with kids, they’ll love the play area on the third floor. It boasts toys that will suit everyone’s interests, from building blocks to dolls to a dress-up area. The kids can also watch TV during their downtime.
Perhaps the best part of the castle? It has secret doorways throughout the property! Visitors of all ages can search for the hidden doors that transport them to other areas of the house.
On sunny days, explore the outside of the castle. Take a swim in the 5,000-gallon pool or the hot tub, and then walk around the immense lawn. The outdoor area also features a courtyard, a wooden play set for children, and picture-perfect landscaping.
If you're looking for more entertainment, head to the nearby beach for boating, fishing, paddleboarding, swimming, or walking around the lake. You can also visit these local attractions:
