There’s no better place to get away from it all than Turkey Creek Park…of course, you’ve got to act fast because there are less than two dozen campsites! The minimal number of sites might seem like a nuisance, but it’s actually a huge plus because it means crowds aren’t the norm and peaceful solitude is.
Turkey Creek Park is tucked away in Decatur, a small town in Newton County.
A picturesque rustic escape, the park features a lake, vacation cabins, a campground, and lots of other amenities for visitors to enjoy.
There are 22 campsites in all. The sites can accommodate RVs as well as tents.
Most of the campsites are inland; however, a few overlook the park’s centerpiece lake.
The 250-acre lake is perfect for a wealth of recreational activities. In fact, the lake is revered as one of the “best water skiing spots” in the state, attracting skiers as early as mid-March.
Anglers are also a fan of the lake, which boasts excellent bass fishing.
The lake is perfect for paddling, too. And since the park offers boat rentals, you don’t have to deal with the hassle of hauling your own.
There’s also a white sand beach with designated swim area.
It’s not just water enthusiasts who are sure to love the park, though.
With nature trails, wooded picnic areas, and a playground, landlubbers will be equally as delighted.

This quaint park isn’t the only water park in Mississippi that belongs on your must-visit list. There’s also Pep’s Point in Hattiesburg. A bit livelier than Turkey Creek Park, Pep’s Point boasts slides, floating platforms, and other fun features.
