Spend Your Last Days of Summer on a Private Island in Maine

Looking for an end-of-summer escape? Head off-grid and experience a tranquil retreat on this private Island in Maine.

One of the best things about summer is time spent with relatives and friends. BBQs, neighborhood parties, and family vacations are the experiences that create lifelong memories. However, now that the season is winding down, many of us may be feeling the need to unwind and spend some quiet time away from the crowds. If you are yearning for a tranquil end-of-summer or early fall getaway, I have found a peaceful spot to unplug and clear your head. How does a stay at a private island sound? If an off-the-grid vacation sounds enticing, the Private Island With Rustic Cabin in Indian Purchase Township, Maine, may be ideal for you. However, there is just one catch: You will need a boat to get here.

This transportation requirement unfortunately counts me out (the closest thing I own to a boat is an old paddleboard), but if you have a more powerful motorized vessel, you are in luck. The Private Island With Rustic Camp is located on scenic North Twin Lake. The camp sits on a largely undeveloped island that is half an acre in size and is all yours to enjoy for the length of your stay.

Along with your own boat, you will also have to bring your sense of adventure. There aren’t a lot of frills and luxury amenities (including electricity and running water) at this remote camp. The comfortable 475 square foot home has two bedrooms and three beds with room for up to six guests. There is also a kitchen with basic supplies, a fridge, and a propane cooktop. Rechargeable lanterns are used for lighting, and a clean outhouse is located on the premises. Guests must bring their own bedding, towels, and drinking water.

While the inside of the cabin is a great place to play games, read a book, or curl up and take a nap, I suspect that you will be spending most of your island time outdoors. The large outside deck is the perfect spot to take in gorgeous views of the lake. And speaking of sights, you can even see the spectacular peaks of Mt. Katahdin from the island.

The camp features a grill and an outside table for enjoying meals, as well as a fire pit where you can roast marshmallows. And you will definitely want to spend time swimming in the lake, taking out the cabin’s kayak, and exploring the property. There are also great swimming areas and hiking trails worth checking out on neighboring islands.

If this highly-rated Airbnb seems too remote for you, you need not be worried. You can still get strong cell service on the island, and the property’s host, Bob, is only a quick phone call away if there is anything you need. Devices and electronics can be charged using the property’s small solar system.

Are you ready to escape to your own private island? If so, find out more about this fabulous remote getaway at the Private Island with Rustic Cabin listing. If you want to experience a secluded getaway in Maine but don’t own a boat, I suggest checking out The NEST Haven Airbnb in scenic Newfield and the Nahmakanta Lake Wilderness Camps in Maine's North Woods.
