Maine’s Most Remote Lodge Has Been Sitting In The North Woods Since 1827
Nahmakanta Lake Wilderness Camps offers a unique and remote lodging experience in Maine's North Woods.
One of our favorite things about Maine is how much of the land is considered remote. We have larger towns with great restaurants and lots of culture, but venture just a few miles from these places and you'll find yourself completely surrounded by nature. This land is rugged, making it harder to visit. That means it's unspoiled, offering some of the most beautiful landscape you can imagine. Today we're featuring a special lodge sitting on a remote lake that most people never venture to. But we promise this trip is totally worth the effort!
Nahmakanta Lake in Maine's North Woods is 3.5 miles long and completely surrounded by forest. This makes it one of the most remote places in the state.
It also makes it one of the most beautiful. It's almost surprising that there's just one accommodation option at the lake.
The Nahmakanta Lake Wilderness Camps have been sitting here along the lake since 1827 and they're the only place you can spend the night here. That makes it a special destination and it also ensures that you'll find plenty of peace and quiet.
The lodge offers nine recently renovated cabins near the lake. Each one includes a small kitchen with everything you need, screened porches with rockers and wood stoves with all the firewood you'll need.
While they differ in size, they can accommodate between two to eight guests.
Cabins also come with a charcoal grill, a picnic table and a campfire ring.
While each one is lovely, you'll probably want to spend most of your time outside of them. There are lots of places to relax on the grounds.
There are so many activities to enjoy you also choose to keep your days busy. How about taking a sea plane trip for the day?
And of course, there's plenty of fishing. In fact, this is one of the main draws for people coming to the lodge.
Visit at just the right time and you could spot one of Maine's favorite animals! The summer here is gorgeous, but we believe you haven't truly experienced a Maine autumn until you've seen the colors in this region.
Run by Don and Angel, there are tons of friendly faces here too.
For a truly unique getaway, Nahmakanta Lake Wilderness Camps is a great choice!
Nahmakanta Lake Wilderness Camps is truly a remote experience. The lodge is open from mid-May through mid-October. While most cell phones work near the lodge, it's not completely reliable. There are a few different accommodation plans ranging from a cabin with all meals included for $170 per night to a cabin with a kitchen to cook your own meals for $100 per night. You can learn more about the lodge and rates by checking out their website. You can also follow them on Facebook. They can be reached on 207-731-8888.
As you can surely see Nahmanta Lake is a beautiful lake nestled in the Maine mountains. Check it out and you'll feel like the most rugged of Mainers!
