Camping in Maine is one of our favorite things to do. And, we're lucky that there are so many places to get out into nature. But, it seems the secret is out in a big way. With so many campgrounds, which one has the best water views, forest trails and fun? This one near Acadia National Park is a perfect fit. And, the best part? It's just slightly off the beaten path, making it quiet and peaceful!

The campground was created by Marie and Arnold Allen in 1958 and sold to the Craigheads, who had been visiting for 20 years, in 1984.

You'll find it in the heart of Mount Desert Island!

It's just a few minutes from amenities of Bar Harbor and the trails of Acadia National Park.

The quiet forest sites sit right on Somes Sound, for incredible access to all sorts of water fun!

On the salt water shore of beautiful Somes Sound.

And, there's nothing like relaxing with a campfire on the water after a fun day outdoors.

Camping is mainly for tents and there are both ground and platforms available.

And trailers & RVs under 20' are welcome here, too.

Camping here feels like a small community, with people returning year after year.

And it's not surprising given the access to forest trails...
