This Off The Radar Place Might Be The Most Gorgeous In Maine
Raven's Nest on the Schoodic Peninsula in Acadia National Park offers secluded, stunning views and is worth the visit.
Over the years, we've told you a lot about Acadia. As Maine's only National Park, it holds an extra special place in the hearts of Mainers. But, it also holds an extra special place in the hearts of just about everyone who visits. That's why finding the off-the-beaten path spots is even more important. Raven's Nest Maine is one of those places and today we're telling you all about it!
Beautiful and secluded Schoodic Peninsula is sometimes forgotten as a part of Acadia.
About 20 miles east of Ellsworth and directly south of Winter Harbor, the Schoodic area is the only portion of Acadia National Park that is located on the mainland.
While the entirety to the Schoodic Area is gorgeous, we love this harder-to-find place located near Schoodic Point.
Raven's Nest can be found with relative ease as long as you know where you're headed.
While the Schoodic Peninsula is just about five miles from Mount Desert Island as the crow flies (or raven in this instance), driving there takes about an hour and will have you meandering around the rocky coast of the island.
From Ellsworth, follow Route 1 going east for about 17 miles.
Then, make a right on Route 186 and follow it south to Winter Harbor.
Making a left at the downtown intersection and turning right after half a mile will lead you right to the Schoodic Loop Road to enter the Schoodic district of Acadia National Park.
Count to the third pull off area on the left while on the Park Road.
Be careful not to miss the pull off, otherwise you'll be headed around another time since this is a one way road.
Once you park, carefully cross the street and you'll find the short, unmarked trail.
Once things begin to get steep, you'll know you're on the right trail!
While beautiful, this area can be slippery and dangerous so always be very careful when hiking here.
And if there are signs indicating areas of restoration, please be mindful not to enter.
The cliffs here look out towards Mt. Desert Island and offer the absolute best views!
The water is clear and green.
Once you've arrived, plan to stay awhile and enjoy what this calm and peaceful part of the park has to offer.
