Step Into a World of Whimsy at the Funky Beach House in Florida

This colorful beach home might be small, but it's brimming with color and whimsy. Plus, it's just a short walk to the beachfront.

Vacations are meant to disrupt our everyday routine, giving us a chance to escape the ordinary. There’s a reason Florida is the ultimate vacation destination; the Sunshine State is packed with everything from world-class resorts to camping adventures and everything in between. Recently, we discovered a unique Florida stay that’s too whimsical to pass up. Plus, it’s just a quick walk from Daytona Beach. Here’s what we love about the Funky Beach House, one of Daytona Beach’s most colorful getaways.

We’ll preface this by saying that the Funky Beach House isn’t your typical getaway. It’s in a tiny, 725-square-foot home that shares a central courtyard with neighboring homes, some of which are under construction and repair. But what it may lack in seclusion, it more than makes up for in convenience and color. Let’s start with the interior decor. The space is drenched in beautiful shades of pastels, and you may feel like you’re living in a mural. Not a square foot of wall space has been left unpainted or un-decorated.

My favorite spot is the kitchen. Colorful tiles are arranged in a lovely pattern that echoes the colors used throughout the home. It’s bold but never overwhelming; an impressive feat, especially considering that one of the walls is a bright yellow.

The house can technically accommodate up to five guests since there are three beds, but it’s probably best suited for a couple or small family. There’s one bedroom and one full bathroom. Other amenities include a fully furnished kitchen, an office desk, a washer and dryer, and a screened-in back porch. Everything in the home has been updated recently, giving it a wonderfully modern feel.

Guests should note that there is no driveway. Instead, you’ll park in the one-car garage or the parking area near the front door. As mentioned before, the home is tucked snugly among other units, so it’s important to park only in the designated areas.

When you’re ready to venture out, Daytona Beach is just a 12-minute walk away. You’ll also be able to walk to restaurants and bars on Main Street easily. One recent traveler shares the convenience of the Funky Beach House: “This is a great place to stay—quite comfortable, with everything you might need. It’s also close to the boardwalk, an easy drive to the airport and speedway, and conveniently located in between the two major bridges that cross over the Halifax.”
