You Can Rent This Charming, Hidden-Away Schoolhouse in Connecticut

One of the things that I love most about living in New England is the experience of surrounding myself with the area’s rich history. We are so fortunate to have many centuries-old buildings and homes filled with the stories of those who have come before us. And in a time when we are losing more and more of these structures to years of neglect and disrepair, I am forever grateful when I discover a historic property that has been saved and given a chance at a second life. I’ve recently come across an old schoolhouse in the small town of Granby that has been lovingly repurposed into a fantastic Airbnb. A stay at The Little Red Schoolhouse offers guests a unique historical experience and a cozy getaway all in one place.

The unusual Airbnb dates all the way back to 1877. It was once the District 9 schoolhouse where local children learned within its walls until 1948. The converted home, which has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been updated with modern conveniences but still contains historic details such as pine flooring and antique windows.   

The Little Red Schoolhouse is tucked away within the peaceful community of West Granby, among scenic fields and local farms. Pretty walking trails and a picturesque waterfall hike are located nearby.

The special rental comfortably sleeps up to five guests. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed, and the second bedroom has a queen-sized bed. A convertible sofa in the living area provides an additional sleeping area. The home is open to guests with pets. 

The schoolhouse is full of cozy spots where you can gather as a group or spend some peaceful time by yourself. The owners have provided a trunk full of board games and some interesting reads. There is also a turntable and several records you can play while relaxing in the living room or cooking dinner in the modern kitchen.

The cozy schoolhouse is available for booking year-round. It is a particularly popular rental around the holidays. Imagine experiencing a New England Thanksgiving or Christmas surrounded by all of this old New England charm!
