7 Strong Beliefs Utah Natives Stand By

Utahns are passionate about their unique local culture, outdoor activities, and family values.

We are proud of our great state, and we will surely defend the lives of those in Utah and our own. From food to sports to our recreational activities, we aren’t afraid to pick a fight. In fact, here are just seven controversial hills that most Utahns are willing to die on.

1. We’ll Take Our Soda "Dirty," Thanks Very Much

We love our soda in Utah, and all over our great state, you’ll find soda shops of all sizes where you can order your favorite fizzy drink. However, you typically won’t find us ordering a soda plain; rather, we prefer it a little "dirty" with various flavors and add-ins. You’ll discover drive-thru soda shops all over, which people can easily access even on the busiest days.

2. Utah’s National Parks Reign Supreme – No Contest Here

Utah is home to five national parks, but these aren’t just any national parks. No, they are some of the busiest national parks in the entire country. Additionally, three of these national parks are considered among the most stunning in the world. For instance, the statistics from the National Park Service indicate that Arches and Zion receive millions of visitors each year. So, try to tell us that we don’t have the best national parks – we dare you.

3. Fry Sauce Reigns Supreme as Utah’s Favorite Condiment

Ketchup? Mustard? Ranch? No, thank you. We are happy with fry sauce. Additionally, this delicious condiment was invented in Utah, and we take great pride in that fact. We are all thankful to Don Carlos Edwards of Arctic Circle for his original fry sauce recipe in the 1940s.

4. Utahns Know Life Is Always Better Outdoors

Whoever said the great outdoors is the greatest therapy is on to something. There is nothing that a day spent hiking, boating, camping, snowshoeing, or skiing won’t cure. Some of the most popular spots to consider visiting include Snowbird for world-class skiing, or opt for Moab for off-roading instead.

5. You Root for the Utes or the Cougars – Never Both

The University of Utah and Brigham Young University may be two of the most prestigious universities in Utah. Still, you either are found wearing red or blue – you don’t wear both. And whichever team you do choose, you are fiercely loyal. Whether you’re cheering for the Cougars or chanting 'Go Utes!', one thing is true – Utahns love a good rivalry.

6. Utah Boasts the Greatest Snow on Earth

After spending a day at one of the best ski resorts in Utah, you’ll immediately see what we are talking about when we claim to have the greatest snow on earth. There’s nothing like fresh powder to play on – that’s what we like to call paradise!

7. In Utah, Family Truly Is Everything

Yes, Utah is known for having large families, and we appreciate that. We may be passionate about many things, but family is our number one priority, and we will defend our families to the end.
