Scattered throughout the Beehive State, you will find some of the most beautiful lakes to spend a warm summer day. One of the best is Sand Hollow Reservoir. Located in Sand Hollow State Park in southern Utah, this large reservoir features warm water, gorgeous scenery, and multiple activities for the entire family. It’s one destination in Utah that will cheer you up and boost your spirits no matter what trials you are facing or stresses are weighing you down.
Sand Hollow State Park is located approximately 15 miles east of St. George. It is a welcomed location due to the hot desert sun in southern Utah.
Sand Hollow State Park is one of the newer and most popular state parks in southern Utah. The reservoir features more than 1,322 surface acres, giving you plenty of space for all of your favorite water activities.
While there are many different ways to enjoy Sand Hollow Reservoir, the best is on the lake. The warm, blue water is a perfect boating destination. You can also try your luck and throw in a fishing line.
Canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and even motorboats are terrific ways to explore this lake. The calm water and red rocks create the ultimate environment for getting away, immersing yourself in nature, and experiencing a bit of a thrill as well.
However, you don’t have to be in the middle of the reservoir to enjoy the water. Individuals of all ages will enjoy swimming, wading, and even diving right from the shore. The soft sandy beaches are ideal for a day out in the sun.
Just make sure that while at this reservoir, you sit back and enjoy the views. Sand Hollow Reservoir is surrounded by a red sandstone landscape that is quite stunning.
While the reservoir is an excellent way to spend the day, if you want more time in the sand, head to the sand dunes. There are approximately 15,000 acres of dunes at this state park that are just waiting to be explored.
And, if you don’t want to rush home, spend the night! There are actually two campgrounds at Sand Hollow State Park: Westside Campground and Sandpit Campground.
The Westside Campground offers standard campsites with full hook-ups. You will also find restrooms with showers. The Sandpit Campground, which features partial hook-ups, is centered around OHV and ATV users.
No matter what is going on in your life, a day at Sand Hollow Reservoir is the perfect getaway to help you forget your worries and receive some of nature’s best therapy.
