7 Laws Every Tennessean Has Probably Unknowingly Broken At Least Once

Tennessee has several quirky and surprising laws that many people have likely broken without realizing.

Every state has its share of weird laws, but we're absolutely in awe of the quirky things Tennessee's legislature has passed. Whether you're a child or an adult, each of these seven virtually unknown laws has the capacity to trip you up at least once or twice in your lifetime. Have you heard of any of them? We sure had our jaw on the floor a couple of times. Here are some truly weird laws in Tennessee that you've probably broken at some point or another:

1. To all you ladies out there:

It's illegal for you to call a man and ask him out on a date. Welcome to 1868, girls. It's... interesting.

2. You most likely haven't broken this law - yet.

If you ever plan on panhandling in Memphis, know that you're going to have to purchase a $10 permit from the city. Ah, the legal system - what's not to love?

3. We hope you haven't broken this law...

It may seem like a given, but Tennessee has actually enacted a law that makes it illegal to drive while asleep. As we're sure you know, there are all sorts of consequences other than your day in court.

4. Have you been to Huntingdon, Tennessee?

It's still illegal to drive a motorized vehicle around the town square, but we'll leave it up to you whether you abide by that age old law or not.

5. Truth or dare?

Not only is it illegal for minors to buy alcohold (naturally), but you can't even DARE a child to buy one. It's against the law, whether it's all in good fun or no.

6. Don't you dare share that password!

Sharing your Netflix password is actually illegal in the Volunteer State, so we'd recommend you keep that to yourself.

7. Did you ever hold hands with your elementary school sweetheart?

In Tennessee, children holding hands in school is considered a "gateway to sexual activity". Hopefully your younger years were clean of handholding, or else you broke the law real early on - crazy kids.
