Did You Know South Carolina Is Home To One Of The World’s Most Beautiful Elevated Walkways?

The city of North Charleston has been busy in recent years with a massive revitalization effort to reshape and improve areas that had been rapidly deteriorating, an endeavor that has resulted in both national and global recognition. We recently featured what became the incredible world's largest inclusive playground that was a part of the $20 million Park Circle redevelopment project. That playground opened on November 11, 2023. Almost exactly one year prior, on November 9, 2022, another amazing attraction in North Charleston opened, the Noisette Creek Pedestrian Bridge, also known as the Battery Park Pedestrian Bridge. And before it was even completed, in August 2022 it was included in a best in the world attractions list by Architectural Digest, the 11 Most Beautiful Elevated Walkways Through Nature.

The Noisette Creek Pedestrian Bridge in North Charleston connects Riverfront Park to an area at the north end of Noisette Creek that is expected to become a mixed-use development as part of an effort to transform the former Navy Base.

The bridge stretches for 800 linear feet, curving across Noisette Creek, a tributary of the Cooper River.

Designed by Thomas & Hutton, a full-service engineering firm, the two striking arches of the bridge are 55 feet tall and span 230 feet.

Another really nice feature of this bridge is a gathering space over the water where gatherings or smaller types of events can be held, such as family parties or wedding ceremonies.

It's especially beautiful at night when lit up against the dark night sky.

This bridge is just one part of the overall revitalization effort for the greater 3,000-acre Noisette community, which has received national attention, named by Cottage Living magazine as one of the top 10 neighborhoods in America that could become a model for cities looking to make sustainability and quality of life top priorities. Even as early as 2005, the master plan to revitalize this community was recognized by the American Society of Landscape Architects as the nation’s leading model of urban renewal and planning.

Design and completion of the bridge took two years and cost close to $8 million. A ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the bridge was held on November 9, 2022.

Did you know about this gorgeous bridge named one of the best in the world attractions? When you go to visit and see it for yourself, don't forget to take a great insect repellent.
