Not Many People Realize That These 9 Things Are Actually Illegal in Pennsylvania

Each state has its share of odd, outdated, and outrageous laws. Here are 9 weird laws in Pennsylvania that you probably didn't know about.

Each state has its own set of weird, outdated, or just plain outrageous laws, and we're certainly no different in the Keystone State. In fact, you'll discover that there some really weird laws in Pennsylvania. Whether they simply hail from an older time, or they were instituted due to a weird circumstance (or maybe even a joke or revenge), it's always fun to learn what strange activities may be illegal where you live. Here are some absurd laws in PA that you probably didn't know about... see if you've ever broken any of them.

1. You cannot sing in a bathtub in Pennsylvania.

So does that mean the shower is fair game in PA? What about a hot tub or swimming pool? This has got to be one of the weirdest laws in Pennsylvania, and one we've probably all broken at least once.

2. No more than 16 women may live together under one roof.

Why? Because more than 16 women living together is technically a brothel, according to this weird Pennsylvania law.

3. In Pennsylvania, you may not catch a fish with your bare hands.

In fact, the only part of your body that you're legally allowed to catch a fish with is your mouth. Go figure! So many weird PA laws... have you ever broken any of these—or caught a fish with your mouth? If so, we'd really love to hear that fish tale.

4. In Morrisville, women must not wear makeup without a permit.

Ladies: Make sure you have your permits before applying that mascara. I can't help but wonder why this law doesn't apply to men, as well. It seems unfair, doesn't it?

5. In Ridley Park, don't even think about eating peanuts while walking backward in front of the Barnstormers Auditorium during a performance. You could be arrested!

We know, we know. You're going to have to find new plans for this weekend. Sorry to break the news to you this way.

6. In Pittsburgh, you may not bring your mule or donkey onto a trolley car with you.

These days, Pittsburgh doesn't have that many trolleys... or donkeys, for that matter. But it's fun to think that there was a time in history when people bringing their donkeys onto trolley cars caused such a problem that the city created a law to stop the behavior. And these days we complain about people talking on their cell phones on the bus.

7. All wine and liquor stores must be run by the state.

Anyone who has attempted to buy a bottle of wine on Sunday can attest to how fun this particular law can be.

8. You may not sleep on top of a refrigerator outdoors.

Pennsylvanians: It is time to break this habit once and for all—even if you find a lovely vintage model. A much better option would be to crash in the lap of luxury at a place like this beautiful rental home in the Poconos.

9. In Philadephia, you may not put pretzels in bags.

Which really begs the question, "What do you do with them, then?" A box isn't a very convenient way to transport or eat pretzels on the fly. Perhaps you could just put a piece of string through their loops and make a pretzel necklace. What? It could work!

Well, we know weird laws in Pennsylvania can get a bit wacky. What do you think about these weird PA laws? Have you unwittingly run afoul of any of these statutes or ordinances? Did you know there are even more weird Pennsylvania laws? And if we missed any that you are aware of, be sure to tell us about them.
