Pennsylvania has some strange and archaic laws that are interesting to compare.

Every state has its own strange and sometimes archaic laws. Whether they are out-of-date and no one's gotten around to updating the law books, or they just address a peculiarity of that particular place, there's no doubt it's interesting to compare them. Below are 10 of the strangest laws in Pennsylvania. See if you can guess why these weird laws in Pennsylvania came to be!

1. Only state-owned liquor stores are allowed in Pennsylvania.

This is easily most commonly encountered weird Pennsylvania law.

2. You may only buy one package of beer at a time, unless you're at a state-owned beer distributor.

This could get problematic with trying to purchase drinks for events or parties! But at least you can buy some beer in grocery stores.

3. More than 16 women may not live together in the same house, because that constitutes a brothel.

This one causes problems with sorority housing all the time.

4. You may not sleep on a refrigerator outside.

But could you sleep on a refrigerator inside?

5. It's illegal to catch a fish with your bare bands.

Be sure you have some gloves handy when fishing in Pennsylvania!

6. In fact, it's illegal to catch a fish with any part of your body, other than your mouth.

This is why fishing poles were invented, we suppose.

7. You also may not catch fish using explosives.

Now that we've cleared that up...

8. You MAY NOT sing in the bathtub.

We aren't mad about this one... neither are your housemates!

9. You may not sell cars on Sundays.

Luckily, you are allowed to drive them any day.

10. You may not sweep dirt under the rug.

This isn't a metaphor for living righteously. You literally cannot sweep dirt under the rug!
