10 Laws Every Pennsylvanian Has Probably Unknowingly Broken At Least Once
Lists 10 outdated and unusual laws that Pennsylvanians may have unknowingly broken.
Confession time! Can we all agree that we probably have, at least once, broken a law? We’re in a hurry, so we might jaywalk to save time, right? But how many laws have you unknowingly broken? Probably quite a few, especially if you consider some of the outdated laws on the books. Here are 10 laws every Pennsylvanian may (or may not, as some of the laws are just utterly ridiculous, especially in the 21st century) have unknowingly broken.
1. Leave your donkey or mule at home if you live in Pittsburgh. After all, they’re not allowed on the trolley, which probably means they’re also forbidden from riding all forms of public transportation in Western Pennsylvania.
2. While you’re at it, leave your horse at home if you’re visiting Tartentum. Tying him to a parking meter while you shop, eat, or hang out is against the law.
3. Ladies of Morrisville: Do you have a permit to wear that makeup? Better carry it with you, or you’re breaking the law.
4. Hey, York! On your feet, especially if you’re watering your lawn with a hose. Otherwise, well, you know the drill (you’re breaking the law).
5. Psst...gentlemen? Do you have written permission from your wife to purchase that alcohol?
6. Sorry, all you jugglers out there. You can juggle just about anywhere you’d like, but just make sure you’re not in front of an airplane.
7. Check those fire hydrants, Pennsylvanians! Failure to do so at least an hour before a fire is, well, illegal.
8. Do the jig. Dance. Boogie. But, for the sake of following the law, do not sing in the bathtub.
9. Philadelphians? Please don’t put your pretzels in a bag.
10. Traveling to Connellsville? Put on a belt! If your pants are more than five inches below your waist, you’re a bona fide lawbreaker.
So, what do you think? Do you think every Pennsylvanian has broken one or two of these laws at least once? Join the conversation in the comments! Then, click here to read about 10 other crazy laws still on PA's books.
