13 Photos Of Missouri In The Winter That Will Make You Long For The Good Old Days

Wintertime’s always fun for the kids – snow days off of school (well, until virtual learning came along), engaging in epic snowball fights, making snowmen, and sled riding all day long. Some of us carry that love of snow and winter into our adulthood, too. These 13 photos of Missouri in the winter give us a glimpse as far back as the first decade of the 20th century, and show that the more things change the more they stay the same.

1. A bitterly cold and icy day in February 1918 causes an ice jam at Iron Mountain Railroad Trestle in the southeastern part of Missouri.

2. What’s a good snowfall without sledding riding with our favorite pup? This undated photo shows just how much fun snow can be for both those with two legs and with four legs.

3. Imagine getting a wintry postcard like this one, of the Great Mississippi Ice Gorge, in 1910.

4. Snow-covered trees flank a lit capitol building at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City.

5. Large icicles hang down from trees in this chilly and beautiful winter snapshot by Don Woolridge.

6. Missourians at a frozen pond in Renick cut ice blocks. After cutting the blocks of ice, the men would then transfer them to a sled drawn by horses.
