One of the oldest homes in America, it was built circa 1737 – almost 40 years before the American Revolutionary War!
French colonist Louis Frasier built the house, and as such, it features lots of French design elements, including high ceilings, hand-made bricks, and cypress columns.
During its time as a residence, it was occupied by various people, including French Governor Jean Baptiste Bienville, who headquartered the Louisiana Territory from the home.
The Old French House served a residence until 1962, when it was purchased by Mary Mahoney. Her husband and brother and transformed into the award-winning restaurant it is today.
Since its establishment, the restaurant has become as significant as the building that houses it. But Mary Mahoney’s isn’t just a local icon – it’s a favorite of several celebrities, too.
Over the decades, countless famous faces – from politicians to musicians – have indulged in Mary Mahoney’s famous seafood-focused fare.
Photos of celebrity diners, as well as notes from the restaurant’s most famous fans, adorn the walls, solidifying its status as a landmark restaurant.
