The amazing-ness of Mississippi is definitely not lost on us locals. From the friendly people to the mouthwatering food, we are fully aware of what a gem of a state Mississippi is. A lot of outsiders are unaware of this fact, which is quite alright because the last thing we need is a ton of people swarming to our state. As the Hospitality State, we’ll always be friendly towards visitors, but that doesn’t mean we want them to start calling Mississippi home. So, the next time you hear someone talking about wanting to move to Mississippi, politely remind them of these 15 reasons they definitely would not like living in the Magnolia State.

1. You can forget experiencing a “white Christmas.”

Snow is a rare sight in Mississippi, but that’s okay. It just means we appreciate it that much more when we do get it.

2. Be prepared to battle extreme humidity.

Until you’ve experienced it, you just won’t understand.

3. Along with some blistering heat.

It’s amazing more of us don’t suffer a heat stroke.

4. And monstrous mosquitoes.

Not only are the mosquitoes huge, they’re relentless.

5. You could be subjected to excessive cow-bell-ringing.

The long held tradition is definitely a bit on the noisy side.

6. Hurricanes are an actual threat.

At least they provide the perfect opportunity for a party.

7. And that means dealing with evacuation traffic.

Better to be safe than sorry.

8. Unwanted house guests are bound to show up.

Okay, you have to admit, he’s kind of cute.

9. Moving at a slower pace is a must.

In a state known for its friendly residents, you can expect to engage in some small talk just about anywhere you go…and it’s great.

Between the perfectly fried seafood and the variety of local specialties and creations, such as the slug burger, dieting is basically impossible here.

Here in Mississippi, coming across animals on the road is almost as common as coming across other motorists.
