Delaware is home to several towns and cities with low crime rates, making them some of the safest places to live.
According to Niche Local's list of the safest places to live, Delaware is filled with towns, communities, and cities that offer plenty of peace and quiet. The methodology of the study, which was last conducted in 2016, calculates and weights various crime statistics taken from FBI Uniform Crime reports and is fully explained here. 1. Frederica
This Dover suburb is best know for having amazing Italian food in an area where that can be hard to find. It also has very low crime rates, with no assaults or vehicle thefts, and an extremely low larceny rate of 737/100,000! 2. Clayton
Clayton's low assault, larceny and burglary rate combined with no murders or vehicle thefts was enough to make this Dover suburb the second safest place to live in Delaware. Clayton is also home to the family-friendly 3 Palms Zoo.
3. Wyoming

4. Cheswold

5. Middletown
Middletown is the first "big" town on the list, and it still is one of the safest towns in Delaware. The beautiful downtown, busy business district and sprawling farmland combine to produce very low crime rates. 6. Felton
Felton is home to Killens Pond State Park, and if you ever had to wonder about your safety in Slower Lower, I'm certain it wasn't in Felton! This town is tiny and quiet - and has crime rates so low that it just barely missed the top 5 safest towns in Delaware.
7. Camden
Lovely Brecknock Park, pictured above, is the pride of Camden town. While it did rank lower than adjacent Wyoming, it's still one of the safest places in Delaware, with hardly any crime to report.
8. Delaware City
Delaware City makes the list as one of the largest towns mentioned, and it remains safe year-round. This town is a great place to enjoy waterfront views without having to worry about stumbling into a seedy part of the city.
9. Elsmere
Tiny, dense Elsmere is the one of the safest towns in New Castle County, when you consider the low assault, burglary, and larceny rates. While you're in town, be sure to visit Casapulla's, home to some of the best sandwiches in Delaware.
10. Smyrna
Although it's technically the town with the highest crime level on this list, Smyrna still boasts impressively low numbers. It also might just be one of the most haunted towns in Delaware.
