Visit The Beacon Drive-In, The Small Town Diner In South Carolina That’s Been Around Since The 1940s

The Beacon Drive-In in Spartanburg is a nostalgic diner known for its great food, sweet tea, and small-town charm.

There are plenty of wonderful diners around our home state, but when it comes to two categories, you’re not going to find anywhere more quintessentially South Carolinian than the Beacon Drive-In, a Spartanburg institution. The Beacon Drive-In is a nostalgic place aimed to hit your tastebuds and your heart strings with a taste of good old-fashioned diner favorites: great food and an even better dining experience. They also serve more sweet tea than any other restaurant in the United States.

The Beacon Drive-In has been around since Thanksgiving Day of 1946, and they’ve stayed in business because they serve great food with a side of small town charm.

Not much has changed in all that time. The Beacon still does simple, truly great food in a wonderfully nostalgic setting.

The Beacon is a popular Spartanburg eatery, and many who pass through find themselves praising the diner for maintaining its small town energy while also selling more sweet tea than any other restaurant in the United States.

The Beacon is also famous for its Chili-Cheese A-Plenty, which is a chili burger buried in French fried potatoes and onion rings. It is every bit as decadent and delicious as it sounds.

Even when things are quiet in Spartanburg, the Beacon is always out there, being the cozy diner you remember and the local eatery you can’t get enough of.

They’ve been serving up generous portions with huge smiles since right after World War II, and we hope they keep on doing so for generations to come.

This picture from the 1970s almost could have been taken last week.

After all, there is no place like a home away from home, and that’s what great diners can be.
