This haunted hotel in Charleston is located right on Marion Square, a public park and gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. You might be surprised to learn this hotel has a couple of former lives, prior to being renovated and opened as an Embassy Suites.

From 1842 to 1865, the fortress-like structure here was home to The Citadel.

Prior to being known as one of the most haunted hotels in Charleston, South Carolina, it was a state arsenal from 1829 through 1842. In 1865, it was commandeered by Federal troops during reconstruction after the Civil War.

And then in 1882, the school opened at this location once again, where it remained until the Citadel Military College opened its new campus on the Ashley River in 1922 where it stands today.

The top floor of what has become one of the most haunted hotels in Charleston was the building assigned to officers at The Citadel. And you might guess this is where the biggest haunts are reported.

Folks occupying rooms on the top floor of this hotel have reported some hair-raising activity that's scary enough to make even the most grounded ghost hunter think twice about spending the entire night.

There's a room here that is reportedly so haunted that the hotel only books it when there is a full house and the room is needed. At one point, that room was numbered M113.

Visitors staying in M113 of this haunted hotel in Charleston, South Carolina, have reported waking to find a young man standing at the foot of their bed. The complete top of his head is missing, exposing his brain. Visitors here have dubbed him the Half Head Man.
