The Unique Restaurant, Harold’s Country Club, In South Carolina Is Like None Other You’ve Ever Visited
South Carolina is notoriously popular for our fine dining restaurants, complete with linens and a wait staff to cater to your every need. But sometimes that scene can be a little over-the-top. The very next time you feel that way, head to the tiny town of Yemassee, where you’ll find a come-as-you-are eatery that’s never met a stranger.
Harold Peeples purchased it in the late 1970s after it had been converted to a gas station and auto parts store. At that point, he began hosting Thursday night covered dinners, which quickly transitioned into Harold doing all the cooking. Soon, he was cooking on more nights than just Thursdays and started charging a small fee to cover expenses.
The cafeteria style seating is unique and offers a chance to get to know new people you're sharing a table with.
They're grilled to perfection, but only on Saturday nights. Oh, and you'll need to call ahead and reserve that steak. The good news is, they'll always have plenty of PBR on hand!
Before or after your dinner at Harold's, take a picturesque drive under a canopy of moss-draped oak trees enroute to see the famous church ruins to cap off the adventure.
