When a restaurant can stand the test of time, you know it’s worth a road trip from any corner of the state. Villa Tronco has served delicious Italian food for over 80 years, making it the oldest restaurant in South Carolina. Whether you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion or just try something new, this particular incredible eatery is worth every extra mile you'll drive to get here. Let’s take a closer look at what makes Villa Tronco so special:
You’ll find Villa Tronco in South Carolina’s capital city, Columbia.
If the building looks familiar, that’s because the restaurant is housed in a historic 19th-century firehouse.
From the moment you step inside, you’ll feel the history of the place.
The family-owned and operated restaurant is now in its fourth generation. What started as a fruit stand during WWII blossomed into the Italian Restaurant after soldiers with Italian heritage that were stationed at nearby Fort Jackson were homesick for their mother’s cooking. Sadie began making spaghetti and meatballs for them and as the demand increased, the business expanded.
Over 80 years later, the menu features a menu full of Mama Tronco’s original recipes.
Fun fact: when Mama Tronco introduced pizza to the menu, no one knew what it was so she would end up giving it away!
Everything is homemade here, made with love, of course.
Pictured above is the popular homemade cheese ravioli filled with ricotta and parmesan topped with tomato sauce. Yum!
From lasagna to veal piccata, the menu covers all the classics, plus a few specialty dishes you'll want to try.
Just be sure to come hungry, the portions are quite generous!
Save room for dessert. A meal of this caliber deserves to end on a sweet note.
Tiramisu, cannoli, and gelato are just a few of the options for desserts, but their famous cheesecake is an absolute must try!
Next time you've got a craving for Italian, make your way over to Villa Tronco.
There's a reason it's been a local favorite for nearly a century!
