Boasting smaller and apparently less prone to crime populations than Portland proper, the suburbs have the city beat by a long shot. With no further ado, here are the safest places to live in the area.
West Linn
Ranking number one in all of Oregon, West Linn is a peaceful city of just over 25,000 with the beautiful Willamette River snaking through town. With less than a 1 percent chance of property crime and a violent crime rate of 19.6, this idyllic suburb is a pretty quiet place to live.
Sherwood
Another sleepy city south of Portland, Sherwood is home to just under 19,000 inhabitants and offers a 1.3 percent chance of property crime and a violent crime rate of 58.8.
Lake Oswego
Another southern suburb, Lake Oswego ranks 6th in the state for safest place to live. With 36,000 residents, the chance of property crime is 1.7 percent and the violent crime rate is 93.8.
Milwaukie
This Portland suburb ranks number 9 on the statewide list of safest places to live in Oregon. With just 20,000 residents, the chance of property crime is 2.5 percent and the violent crime rate is 121.
Beaverton
Ranked 15th in the state, Beaverton has a population near 90,000 and a chance of property crime of 1.5 percent. The violent crime rate is 152.8.
Troutdale
With just under 19,000 residents, Troutdale is ranked 21st in the state for safety. The chance of property crime is 3.4 percent and the violent crime rate is 183.4.
Hillsboro
With just over 91,000 residents, Hillsboro ranks number 22 statewide for safety. The violent crime rate is 191.2 and the chance of property crime is 2.2 percent.
