The road trip is 534 miles long and takes about 10 hours of driving time plus the time you’ll want to get out and explore the beauty. It focuses on southern and eastern Oklahoma and the scenery along the route is jaw-dropping, especially in summer and the fall.

You can choose your own starting point but we are going to begin in southern Oklahoma at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. These southwest Oklahoma mountains are a must-stop destination for anyone in (or traveling through) the state. It is home to nearly 60,000-acres of natural beauty filled with wildlife and recreation. You can get out of your car and take a hike or there is a road that travels through the mountains so you can enjoy the beauty from your car.
2. Turner Falls Park

Turner Falls Park is located in south-central Oklahoma in the heart of the Arbuckle Mountains and is home to the tallest waterfall in the state. The waterfall splits into several cascades as it tumbles over the cliff above the drop. The waterfall is 77 feet tall and is the perfect place to cool off on a hot, summer day, but it's also absolutely stunning in the fall. The drive into the falls and in this part of the state is majestic.

3. Chickasaw National Recreation Area

From its pristine waters to picturesque scenery, the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in south-central Oklahoma is the perfect place to explore the great outdoors. This Oklahoma oasis is situated at the foothills of the Arbuckle Mountains and is made up of Veteran’s Lake, Lake of the Arbuckles, Travertine Creek, and Rock Creek. Throughout the park, you'll find fresh water and mineral springs running freely, and it is home to a little waterfall and swimming area.

The park boasts of a postcard-like setting and is an outdoor oasis waiting to be discovered. It offers crystal clear waters, towering pines, breathtaking scenery, and almost every outdoor activity you’re looking for in a state park.

This 55-acre park is located near the city of Heavener and is a true gem for locals. Operated as a non-profit now, this park offers tons of hiking trails, camping opportunities, and even a spectacular scenic overlook.
6. Natural Falls State Park

Natural Falls State Park is located in the Ozark Highlands of Oklahoma and is home to one of the tallest waterfalls in the state. You can find this gorgeous park in West Siloam Springs close to the Arkansas border. The hike to the waterfall is only 1 mile long and the scenery is breathtaking. You cannot swim in the waterfall but the hike alone is worth it.
7. Grand Lake State Park

The last stop on this stunning road trip is Grand Lake State Park, home to the beautiful Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees. This captivating state park has several different areas within it, offering camping, boating, fishing, hiking, and much more. It has 1,300 miles of shoreline and is one of the largest lakes in the state. If you visit from May-October the green foliage in this area is a show stopper and makes for a magnificent backdrop.
