Enjoy Classic California Views from this Picturesque Coastal Town
Elk, a small coastal town in Northern California, offers breathtaking ocean views, charming small-town ambiance, and a historic inn with a Michelin-starred restaurant.
There is something so enchanting about exploring the coastline of Northern California. This is my absolute favorite part of California - the ruggedly beautiful landscapes, the winding roads through stunning, towering trees. Plus, we can’t forget some of the most breathtaking ocean views. What’s even better when exploring this part of NorCal is being able to stop in the charming small towns along the way. One of my personal favorites is Elk, California - a tiny rural community that is small but offers a huge experience for visitors. Come along as I show you what's so great about it:
Nestled on the captivating Northern California coastline in Mendocino County...
... the cozy community of Elk – sometimes affectionately called Greenwood – is a true California gem.
Just look at those views!
With a tagline that reads “where the forest and meadows meet the sea,” it’s no wonder this rural spot is so coveted by locals and visitors.
It is located just 22 miles from Fort Bragg.
And as a small coastal town it only has a population hovering around 200 people.
It’s not just the rural community that is a hidden treasure...
... but also the drive along State Highway 1 that is worth mentioning.
First things first, if you’re looking for a place to stay during your visit.
We highly recommend The Harbor House Inn. Nestled on the rugged Pacific Coast, the historic Harbor House Inn, built in 1916, boasts classic furnishings, fireplaces, decks, and pathways to lush gardens and a private beach.
Within the premises of the Inn, there resides a distinguished restaurant with two Michelin stars, and a Green star for sustainability.
The restaurant presents a hyper-local tasting menu, thoughtfully curated with a focus on seafood and vegetables.
You can spend your days at a few beautiful places along the way.
One of this is Greenwood Creek State Beach, which offers some of the most picturesque views of the Pacific Ocean. The beach is characterized by its rugged beauty, with a mix of rocky shorelines, sandy stretches, and towering cliffs that frame the coastline. It's a perfect spot for leisurely walks, beachcombing, and taking in the mesmerizing views of the Pacific Ocean.
Visiting Elk is an invitation to immerse yourself in the beauty and tranquility of the Northern California coast.
The blend of natural wonders, small-town charm, and refreshing coastal ambiance makes Elk a captivating destination for guests looking to explore and enjoy the simple life.
So, if someone were to ask you, “Where is Elk, CA,” you’d know what to tell them!
