You’ll Never Forget A Trip To This Incredible Northern California Restaurant

Cliff House is an iconic San Francisco restaurant that originally opened in 1863. The first restaurant burned down on Christmas Day, 1894.

The restaurant was rebuilt in 1896, at a cost of $75,000 and survived the 1906 earthquake, but burned to the ground on September 7, 1907.

The third version of Cliff House opened in 1909. It went through some hard times during Prohibition, and closed in 1925. It was renovated and reopened in 1938.

Now part of the The Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Cliff House was extensively renovated again by the National Park Service and owners Dan and Mary Hountalas, who have been operating the restaurant for over 35 years.

When you pull up to the entrance, you know what to expect...

Start with an appetizer. The ahi tuna tartare with quail egg, pine nuts, asian pear. mint and habanero infused sesame oil is exquisite.
