Once Abandoned And Left To Decay, The Old Store In North Carolina Has Been Restored To Its Former Glory

The Old Store in Grassy Creek lives in a building with a great history. Constructed in about 1900 when the agriculture industry was booming in the area it has served many prominent purposes, including a doctor’s office, a post office, and a former general store and gas station which operated until around 1990 when it turned into an office for a family-owned Christmas tree farm. Restored to its former glory, this once-abandoned place once again serves a vital purpose to this small town of fewer than 1,000 residents because in 2020, the old building was renovated and reopened as a general store and small event venue.

Its rustic presence is a beautiful part of the landscape and a strong reminder of the area's agricultural history.

After some hard work and renovation, the store was reopened.

A large deck was built adding tables and chairs, and rocking chairs for folks to enjoy the beautiful countryside and bring a picnic lunch if you like.
It is still recognizable, but with some major upgrades.

Some of the inventory includes a variety of local foods and crafts which make thoughtful gifts.
The owners have kept a lot of the artifacts from the original store in the 1950s and 1960s to decorate the store.

They also offer Grassy Creek and Virginia-Carolina High School T-shirts and hats.
Events are offered throughout the months, including painting workshops, music, and nature hikes.
