While the falls have become a popular cliff Jumping spot over the years, it's important to remember how dangerous these waters can be.

As always, it's important to remember that we need to not only take care of and respect these natural spaces but to keep in mind that Mother Nature can be dangerous. Like some of our other frequently visited waterfalls, Split Rock Falls has been home to unfortunate casualties. Over the years, cliff jumpers have found themselves injured, making it important to acknowledge when the falls are too powerful to jump into.

Don't feel discouraged from visiting here though, the swimming hole is favorite place for many of us to visit.
Clear blue and green water that's perfect for cooling off in, if you're not interested in cliff jumping you can always wade at the base of the falls!

Beginning in the Dix Mountain Range, the falls are a part of the Boquet River. The falls have two major drops and you won't want to forget your camera for this trip! This swimming hole has some of the most clear, gorgeous water you'll dip your feet into all summer!

Is Split Rock Falls cliff jumping safe?

This is a very important question. The honest answer is that no cliff jumping is completely safe. All jumpers jump at their own risk and there is a good chance of injury even if you're quite careful. However, many people jump off the cliffs at Split Rock Falls, and it is quite a thrill. The amount of risk that you are willing to take is up to you. Don't let anyone talk you into anything with which you do not feel comfortable. Jump at your own risk and keep your own safety in mind.

Is Split Rock Falls worth visiting if you don't plan to jump?

Absolutely. Many people come here to swim in the water away from the falls and to relax while viewing the falls. This is a lovely day trip for anyone. The falls are beautiful.

What should I bring when visiting the falls?

You'll want to wear sturdy shoes for the walk to the falls. The rocks can get quite slippery. You'll also want to bring a towel to sit on and to dry off. You will also want to bring water and maybe some snacks but please be sure to pack out what you brought in. Bring a trash bag and pick up others' trash while you're at it, too.

Where can I stay when visiting Split Rock Falls? 

There are not many hotels in this area, but you can find bed and breakfasts nearby and also many public and private Adirondack campgrounds. If you want to stay in a hotel, the nearest options are likely in Lake Placid to the north or in Ticonderoga to the south.
