You’ll Love Visiting Genoa Bar, A Nevada Saloon Loaded With Local History

Have you ever been to a bar that has a trap door? What about a bar that has hosted the likes of Theodore Roosevelt, Clark Gable, Clint Eastwood, and Raquel Welch? Or a bar that has been serving patrons for over 125 years? Well, you can check all those boxes by making a single pit stop at Genoa Bar. Not only is it the oldest bar in Genoa, but it’s also the oldest bar in all of Nevada!

The saloon itself was built in 1853 and started serving drinks to its customers well before Nevada was established as a state. Though its ownership has changed hands several times, the ambiance and its incredible breadth of memorabilia remain preserved.

Whether you are sipping one of its signature cocktails or a local draft beer, you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported back in time. Until, of course, your smartphone rings and brings you back to the 21st century.

Some of the more notable pieces of memorabilia include an original wanted poster for Abe Lincoln’s killer, the mirror behind the bar that came from Scotland in the 1840s, and the various electric lamps that are original to the bar.

Though the bar is home to many remarkable relics of the past, it has hosted equally remarkable figures, from the past and present. When you first enter the Genoa Bar, you will be strolling through the same doorway as past presidents, movie stars, and musicians.
And, come on, who doesn’t want to play a round of pool in the same room where Teddy Roosevelt quenched his thirst with a beer?

Before you embark on your first lap around the bar to marvel at its history, you should head over to the bar and grab a drink. It has multiple beers on tap and always features a few from local breweries.
But, we recommend you try the house-favorite bloody mary, which it makes entirely from scratch and has been serving for over 25 years.

On Sundays during the summer, you can swing by and enjoy live music at its “porch parties.” And on Friday nights during the winter, live music is brought inside so you can enjoy the warmth. It’s worth noting that instead of having regular food service, it encourages and welcomes guests to bring their own.
However, on limited weekends during the summer, guests have the opportunity to dig into the food from the Hungry Hearts food truck. Not only are the burgers delicious, but the team donates 10% of its proceeds to organizations helping children in need.
