Summertime in Wyoming is a short season, but you can make the most of it if you plan your day trips out in advance! Make plans to discover Curt Gowdy Hidden Falls outside of Cheyenne and you'll find a gorgeous destination that's refreshing on a hot summer day whenever you find yourself craving a waterfall-hunting adventure. Not to be confused with the Wyoming waterfall of the same name found in the Tetons, the trail to Hidden Falls near Cheyenne is rated as moderate and well worth the extra effort to find.
Head to the beautiful Curt Gowdy State Park in Cheyenne to discover a world beyond your wildest imagination.
While everyone else heads to western Wyoming or up to the Bighorns to chase waterfalls, one of the best-kept secrets is right here on the outskirts of the city.
The Crow Creek Trail is often touted as the best trek near Wyoming's largest city. This 3.5-mile trail takes you out and back to a hidden waterfall, though it's a bit of an adventure to find it!
This breathtaking waterfall hike is sure to become one of your favorite day trip destinations near the capital. Be prepared to get your feet wet, though, because you'll end up wading through the river to find it.
As you make your way along the Crow Creek Trail, keep an eye out for the Hidden Falls sign. I guess it's not so hidden after all... right?
If you don't know where to look, though, the sign won't be any help. After following the trail, you'll end up at a cool wading pool among enormous rocks and boulders.
You've got to get your feet wet to find the falls, so be ready to get in the water!
Be cautious of these water crossings in high runoff season.
Walk a short way to bring yourself to the opening between the rocks - there you'll find your first glimpse of the beautiful (and refreshing!) Curt Gowdy Hidden Falls.
It'll take even more water wading to get up close, but it's worth it!
While everyone is posting photos of their crowded hikes to the Hidden Falls in Grand Teton National Park, you can enjoy your own secluded waterfall with hardly a person in sight. Now that is a worthy adventure!
Visit Curt Gowdy State Park on the next hot summer day and you'll have a blast splashing in the cool water and walking around underneath a tucked-away cascade! For more information on the Crow Creek Trail and the many other trails in this fantastic park, visit the Wyoming State Parks website. But first... be sure to download a map from the AllTrails+ app to help you stay on the trail!
