West Virginia’s Cacapon Mountain Is One Of The Best Hiking Summits for Viewing Multiple States

Cacapon Mountain in West Virginia offers stunning views and several accessible hiking trails and overlooks.

Some of the most amazing views in the world can be found on West Virginia's Cacapon Mountain, according to National Geographic, and we know it's true. Here's the rundown on three ways to access Cacapon Mountain's amazing views, which reach all the way to Pennsylvania on a clear day. Capacon Mountain Overlook in West Virginia is one of the most beautiful places in the state. It also has some of the best hiking trails in West Virginia.

The easiest access point is on the northern end of the mountain at the Prospect Overlook (also known as the Panorama Overlook).

You can drive right up to the overlook year-round, and it is located just a few miles from the town of Berkeley Springs.

From this point, you can see three different states: West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

Another option that you can drive or hike to is the Cacapon Mountain Overlook.

This is on the southern end of the Cacapon summit, and while you approach this overlook from West Virginia, the actual observation deck is located just over the border into Virginia.

From here, on a clear day, you can actually see four states - West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

The gravel road to the overlook is closed to vehicle traffic during the winter, and in very wet conditions, it might also be inaccessible to some vehicles. But don't worry, you can still hike to the overlook when the road is inaccessible!

My personal favorite, though, is hiking the fire road that runs along the summit of the mountain from the Cacapon Overlook to Prospect Rock.

You can access it from the Cacapon Overlook or near the midpoint from the Ziler Trail at Cacapon Resort State Park. The views are similar to what you'll find at each overlook, but there's just something extra special about a panorama you've worked hard to reach. The fire road runs for 16 miles along the top of the mountain summit.

Capacon Mountain Overlook in West Virginia has long been known as one of the most beautiful places in the state. George Washington was a frequent visitor to Prospect Rock as well, purportedly to indulge his interest in the prospect of westward expansion.

Have you taken in the expansive views from Cacapon Mountain Overlook in West Virginia?
