The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad runs rides on the New Tygart Flyer, a vintage diesel-powered passenger train. The four-hour, 46-mile round trip has been called one of the most relaxing mountain wilderness train rides. This West Virginia train ride to see waterfalls is a memorable experience for all and you should add it to your bucket list.
You'll start your journey at the Elkins Train Depot.
It's located at 315 Railroad Avenue, Elkins, West Virginia, 26241.
The ride goes through the forest alongside Cheat Mountain and promises one of the best day trips in West Virginia.
You'll get fantastic views of the Shavers Fork of the Cheat River.
The train travels through an impressive tunnel, the "S" tunnel which is 1,800 feet long.
A delicious cold-cut lunch is included in the ticket price, so you won't go hungry on this long journey. Coffee, tea, and water are also included.
Occasionally the train also has wine-tasting events. You can also upgrade to the Parlor Car to enjoy adult beverages along the way.
The train stops at a path that leads through the forest. Prepare to do a little bit of hiking!
When you follow the path, it takes you to a beautiful waterfall. Bring your camera to take lots of photos of this picturesque setting.
This is the High Falls of Cheat. The waterfall is 18 feet high and 150 feet wide. After enjoying the waterfall, you'll board the train again and return to Elkins.
