High Rock Lookout sits at the highest and loftiest point of the Sawtooth Ridge of Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and is loved by hikers for many reasons. While the trail to the summit is considered moderately challenging, it's short approach makes it suitable for less experienced hikers and seasoned adventurers alike. Visitors can also bring their dogs on this journey, as long as they are kept on a leash. Offering absolutely breathtaking views of Mount Rainer, the journey to this lookout spot is definitely worth the effort.
The original structure at the top of the summit was constructed in 1929. For many years, it was used as an active lookout.
It's amazing that this lookout point has almost been around for 100 years!
The surrounding views are astonishing. This area is popular with hikers throughout the year, but many people will begin the journey very early in the morning to catch the sunrise.
This 3.2 mile hike considered a little challenging, but can typically be done in 1.5-2 hours.
The approach to the summit is fairly short, but it's quite steep, so caution is advised.
The lookout spot is incredible, but the views throughout are also amazing.
The structure on top of the lookout is a great place to sit down and enjoy the breathtaking views.
This little building has a lot of history- from it's construction in 1929 to the longtime inhabitant who retired in 2004, the unique story of this spot can be appreciated.
You can step outside of the lookout building and walk to the edge of the cliff.
Be sure to wear good shoes and use caution.
This trail does not have drinking fountains or restrooms, but if you plan accordingly, you'll enjoy all the beauty this trail has to offer.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their own water- just be sure to dispose of any garbage.
Depending on the time of day, the views from High Rock Lookout are even more spectacular.
Sunrise and sunset are excellent times to visit- especially on a slightly cloudy day.
Whether you're an experienced hiker, or you're looking for a beautiful spot to make memories with loved ones, High Rock Lookout is a great destination. The elevation gain is very real, so be sure to prepare for your visit, and remember to take breaks throughout the journey if needed! The views at the top will not disappoint.
