This Historic Battlefield May Be Home To Virginia’s Next State Park

Virginia's landscape lends itself wonderfully to parks. And Virginia's state parks are among the most beautiful in the country. Whatever your idea may be of a perfect outdoor adventure, there's likely a park that's perfect for you. Mountain adventurers may be drawn to Grayson Highlands State Park, beach-combers will love First Landing State Park, and now, those with a keen interest in battlefield history will be thrilled to hear about a proposed new state park in Virginia: Culpeper Battlefields State Park.

Are you ready to add a new Virginia state park to your bucket list? Slated to open on July 1st, 2024, Culpeper Battlefields State Park would be the newest addition to the collection.

The park will center around the historic battlefields of Culpeper, where some of the most significant battles of the Civil War were fought.

The park will include 1,700 acres of the Cedar Mountain Battlefield and Brandy Station Battlefield as well as some elements of the battlefields at Kelly’s Ford and Rappahannock Station.

Cedar Mountain and Brandy Station are just 14 miles apart. Plus, downtown Culpeper, just 9 miles from either site, is a great day trip destination in its own right.

Aside from the historical significance, the park will also be positively breathtaking. Culpeper County, with its rolling hills, beautiful old-growth trees, and proximity to Washington D.C.

The specific amenities offered by the parks have yet to be announced, but visitors will likely be able to learn about the historic events that took place during the major battles fought here.
