Buzzard Rock Is A Gorgeous Forest Trail In Virginia That Will Take You To A Hidden Overlook

There is much to see in the George Washington National Forest within the Shenandoah National Park in Front Royal, Virginia. One such notable spot is the Buzzard Rock Overlook, which is nestled within the deeply scenic trail of the same name.

The Buzzard Rock Trail offers multiple hiking options, including a 2.9-mile path that is centered on the overlook spot. There is also the entire 6.2-mile trail system that gives hikers an opportunity to experience the George Washington National Forest in its fullness.

The Buzzard Rock Overlook is a 15-minute drive from the north entrance of the Shenandoah National Park in Front Royal. The 2.9-mile trail that focuses on the overlook site is situated at an elevation gain of 479 feet.

The overlook trail is considered moderate, meaning hikers of all skill levels should be able to traverse it without difficulty. The 2.9-mile trail typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours to hike.

There is a small gravel parking lot leading to the trail entrance. It is situated near a country road.

Much of the overlook trail is shaded. In the warmer months, hikers will experience a variety of wildlife, including birds and squirrels.

As the overlook draws closer, hikers have the opportunity to see views of the landscape down below, including the Massanutten Mountains.

Shenandoah National Park is an extensive network of natural areas, encompassing a total of 105 miles. Other attractions within the park include glimpses of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
