Blackrock Summit Is An Easy Hike In Virginia That Takes You To An Unforgettable View

Blackrock Summit via Trayfoot Mountain and Appalachian Trail offers an easy hike with stunning views in Shenandoah National Park.

One of the best parts about a hike is seeing some truly phenomenal hikes. One of the worst parts of a hike? A steep and challenging ascent. But the good news is that a trail doesn't have to be hard to be worth it. In fact, one of our absolute favorite hikes in Virginia is accessible via an easy trail.

Blackrock Summit via Trayfoot Mountain and Appalachian Trail is the perfect trail for those who want a view — but without a demanding hike.

Located in Shenandoah National Park near Grottoes, Virginia, this trail wanders through a forest trail to gorgeous mountain views.

The loop trail is on the shorter side — just 1.1 miles long — but it features amazing features.

Just look at this waterfall! It's an absolutely beautiful sight and well worth a moment to see.

The trail isn't steep — just an elevation of 180 feet — but it is rocky.

Make sure you're wearing the right shoes for rock scrambling, or else this trail will become more difficult.

And then you'll reach the top, and see fantastic views of the surrounding forests and mountains.

It's astonishing to see such awe-inspiring views with such a short trek!

You likely won't be particularly out of breath when you get up here, but you'll still want to stay for awhile as you take in the view.

It's well worth it to have a snack and a break here!

So, if you're looking for a short, simple hike with a major payoff in Virginia, this is the hike for you.

Kids and adults alike will love it.

The trail is best used from April to October. And dogs can join you on your hike — just make sure they're leashed! Have you ever taken this hike? Share your stories and pictures in the comments!
