There's something about hiking in the secluded wilderness of our beautiful Green Mountain State, away from cities and towns, just you out in the middle of nowhere. If you are in quest of such a place, we have the answer. The Barr Hill Hiking Trail is an isolated trail located in the forests of northeast Vermont, outside the town of Greensboro. Take this short and sweet loop trail for spectacular views and a calming and rejuvenating stroll.
We can't think of a better start to a hike than with a view of the southern Green Mountains, Woodbury Mountain, Camel’s Hump, Elmore Mountain, and Mount Mansfield, which will be viewable from an open field near the trailhead.
This short one-mile loop hike features three different lookouts and is a great trail for small kids and families.
The trail can be found at Barr Hill Natural Area in Greensboro, a small town in northeast Vermont.
The lightly trafficked trail is well-marked for the most part and is rated as easy, so it is accessible to all hiking skill levels.
Depending on the time of year you visit, the trail is known to be home to many beautiful wildflowers and fluffy beds of sphagnum moss.
Traverse through dark, coniferous woods, and if you're lucky, you'll be able to spot hawks and northern ravens along the hike. Keep your eyes peeled.
For a quick nature outing, there are not many better options than the Barr Hill Natural area.
