Visit Valley Of The Gods, One Of Utah’s Most Underrated Destinations

Southeastern Utah is one area that doesn’t get a lot of attention, especially when compared to other parts of the Beehive State. However, it certainly deserves it. While there are several areas in this part of the state that I would recommend, one that is quite underrated is Valley of the Gods. This is an area near Mexican Hat with buttes, pinnacles, and views that are picturesque in every way. Plus, it’s located on Bureau of Land Management land so you can explore it to your heart’s content. It’s certainly one destination that deserves a little more attention.

Valley of the Gods is beautiful backcountry. It is near the picturesque Monument Valley and offers very similar landscapes.

While Monument Valley is on Navajo Nation Land and there are many restrictions and requirements for exploring the area, Valley of the Gods is located on BLM land, providing many opportunities for adventure.

In ways of services and attractions, you won't find any. But, believe us, you won’t care. The views are extraordinary.

There is a 17-mile dirt road that takes you throughout the area. This road is typically quiet and is a great place to escape the monotony and stresses of daily life.

Be prepared for some steep areas of this drive. There are also sandy and bumpy sections as well. If the weather is poor, this road may become difficult to travel on and a high-clearance vehicle is strongly recommended.

You are welcome to hike, backpack, and camp in the Valley of the Gods. However, there are no designated trails or campgrounds available. This is a completely primitive area and you will need to prepare accordingly for your visit.

If you are up for a little bit of adventure and some heart-racing moments, drive on the Moki Dugway.

Moki Dugway is one of the most dangerous roads in Utah with extremely tight switchbacks, gravel terrain, and an 11% grade. Oh, and did we mention that the road is right along the side of a cliff? You can find the Moki Dugway on the western side of the Valley of Gods.

Valley of the Gods is a hidden gem that is quite underrated. The views are remarkable, the quiet is ideal, and the opportunities to immerse yourself in nature are priceless.
